Dietician Lisa Hancock talks to Evie Martin about elimination diets.
This form of dieting is increasingly popular as people explore ways to lose weight, improve their energy or manage pain conditions. As Lisa points out, one of the most important things about trying an elimination diet is to go slowly and try only one food at at time.
If you eliminate both gluten and lactose from your diet at the same time, for example, and find that symptoms improve, it will be difficult to ascertain which of these foods was causing your symptoms. As always, Lisa’s advice here is as sensible, practical and scientifically sound. Don’t “jump in” to extreme elimination diets – listen to Lisa before giving it a try if you suspect that certain foods may be causing you problems.
